Kneecap Trophy:

After 4 seasons as Captain, Dave Oaksford decided to take a rest from rugby and stepped down as Captain to be replaced by Billy Hayne with Tim Comben as his Vice-Captain.  Will Eckersley & Matt Savage both hung up there boots but continued their association with the Club by taking up coaching, although Matt did play occasionally, 7 games, when the 1st team was short on players.  Facundo Belcoure’s placement took him up-country but he is hopeful of returning next year.  Our highest points scorer, Ryan Lewendon returned to Southern Counties side Yeovil and Sean Murphy also returned to Wimborne and won a county cap at the end of the season.

Pre-season training got off to a bad start with Rory Legg breaking his ankle on the hard ground but we welcomed James Newsam and Lewis Allan from Dorchester and Ralph Green from Loughborough.  Jacob Brunell came up from the Colts and eventually established himself as the 1st team scrum half.  Later in the season we also welcomed Adam Makepeace and James Baker from over the hill.

Unfortunately both our pre-season friendlies and our first home league match had to be postponed but once we got onto the field there was no stopping us and we were undefeated until we travelled to Bridport where we went down to our only league loss of the season.  We won the league with two games to spare but had to go to Chippenham to play their second team to decide who would be promoted to Southern Counties.  In a closely fought match we came out victorious by just two points.  Unfortunately we were knocked out of the first round of the Papa John’s Community Cup at Warminster and due to an administrative error we did not enter any D&W Cup Competition.
